A few weeks ago I entered to win the Oreo Play Up Dessert challenge set forth by A Nut in a Nutshell (I didn’t win by the way) and put together a very tasty dessert.
So here’s a riddle for you… what do you get when you put together a tasty cookie and a moist delicious cupcake and then top it with creamy vanilla frosting?
Awesomeness! Pure bliss… Oreo Surprise Cupcakes.
My family wasn’t sure what to think since I haven’t been making a whole lot of desserts lately but that didn’t stop them from enjoying every last cupcake that we had in the house. I was surprised that they lasted more than two days!
Such a delicious dessert is beyond easy to make and is really only one more step than regular cupcakes!
Ingredients
1 cake mix – any flavor made according to the directions
1 box of instant pudding – vanilla for a yellow cake and chocolate for chocolate
Oreos – your choice of flavor
Frosting – your choice
Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees and put cupcake papers in a regular sized cupcake pan.
Stir the dry pudding into the cake batter…. trust me, this is delicious and adds a lot of moisture to your cake or cupcakes.
Place approximately 1 tablespoon of batter into the cupcake liner, place a Oreo on top, and then top with more batter making sure that the cookie is fully covered.
Bake for about 15 – 18 minutes. When you can handle the cupcakes (about 5 minutes or so) take them out of the pan and let them cool on a rack.
Frost & top with crushed Oreo’s if you like.
To crush the Oreo’s throw some into the food processor and pulse until you have fine crumbs or put them in a ziploc bag and crush them with a rolling pin. The latter is a great way to take out some stress too!
I should let you know that there is nothing low calorie… low fat… or healthy about these at all! But I didn’t have to tell you that though… so that means that just one Oreo surprise cupcake won’t hurt your New Year’s resolution.

Yum! I might have to try those with the boys. They love cupcakes and oreos! (but then again, who doesn’t??)
Right!! These are easy enough that the boys could help too.
What?! They lasted more than two days?! We would’ve eaten them for breakfast, lunch and dinner and they would’ve been gone! Why do I feel like I could taste these if I licked the screen? Dang! I am weak! W-E-A-K!
I may have had to threaten them….
What a great idea, I can’t wait to try this with my kids. I wonder if i could use the mini-Oreos from the 100 Calorie packs and make mini-muffins? But totally YUM-O!
That is a great idea!! Especially if you’re watching your calories… you could use applesauce instead of the oil and egg beaters instead of regular eggs in the cake mix and cut down on calories there too.
I need to try those. We love Oreos.
Me too! I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like them.
Seeing that OREO plunked down there is beyond appetizing!!!! You did a great job!
Thank you! I loved them!
I know a little boy who would love those for his birthday. What a great idea – pinning these!
They would be fun for a birthday, especially if it was a total surprise!
Oooh, I love the surprise aspect – looks delicious!
They are delicious! I can’t wait to try other flavors of Oreo’s.
I found some gluten-free mock oreo cookies here that would work would this. I suppose they don’t stay crunchy? Looks good!
They were still a bit crunchy. They weren’t super crisp like when you eat one straight from the package but it wasn’t soggy at all.
I like that it is in the middle. I made cupcakes similar to this one but the Oreo was at the bottom and half of them the wrapper stuck to the oreo.
I’ve seen them on Pinterest with the cookie on the bottom. Now that I know that it’ll stick I won’t try it that way!
Oh my goodness, my kids would love these!
They will!! Mine did. I did make a cupcake for the toddler without a cookie in it though since he usually just eats the top of it anyway.
